Driver Airbag

Removal

1. WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

2. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Ignition must remain OFF until repair is complete. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.

If a SRS fault is present, continue to Step 3. Otherwise, turn the ignition off, wait at least one minute and continue to Step 4.

3. Depower the SRS.

4. Remove the steering column shrouds.
Refer to: Steering Column Shrouds.

5. Flat-bladed screwdriver/bit.

1. Turn the component clockwise through 90 degrees
2. Position the screwdriver to the steering column shaft side of the spring clip.

1. Turn the component counterclockwise through 180 degrees
2. Position the screwdriver to the steering column shaft side of the spring clip.

Installation

1. Before installation, make sure the spring clip is in the position shown.







2. NOTICE: The driver airbag module electrical connectors are unique and cannot be reversed when connected to the driver airbag module. Match the electrical connector key to the keyway in the driver airbag module. Do not force the electrical connectors into the driver airbag module. Damage to the connector or component may occur.







3. NOTE: An audible click is heard when each side of the driver airbag module is pushed in and the spring clip seats behind the steering wheel retainer.

- After installation, pull the driver airbag from the 3 and 9 o'clock positions to make sure it is retained in the steering wheel, then push it back in again.







4. Install the steering column shrouds.

5. If the SRS was depowered, repower the SRS.
