Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
Principles of Operation
NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).
NOTE: When installing a new SJB (Smart Junction Box), it must be configured for this feature, if originally equipped. When the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) procedure is carried out, the configuration is automatically loaded into the new module. Refer to Information Bus.
The DRL (Daytime Running Lamps) feature (when active) energizes the high beam shutters and provides voltage to the headlamp bulbs in series. This gives the appearance of the high beams illuminated at a reduced intensity.
The SJB (Smart Junction Box) controls the DRL (Daytime Running Lamps) by using various inputs to determine whether or not the DRL (Daytime Running Lamps) should be illuminated. These inputs include:
- Ignition switch position
- Headlamp switch position
- Headlamps on or off
- Transaxle gear selection
The DRL (Daytime Running Lamps) is not a programmable parameter for this vehicle.
