Pinpoint Test F: DTC U0140:87

Normal Operation

- DTC U0140:87 (Lost Communication With Body Control Module: Missing Message)- sets when the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module is missing messages from the SJB (Smart Junction Box) over the MS-CAN (Medium Speed Controller Area Network).

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Module communication

- SJB (Smart Junction Box)

- RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module

PINPOINT TEST F : DTC U0140:87

F1 VERIFY CUSTOMER CONCERN

- Ignition ON.

- Verify that there is an observable symptom present.

Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to F2.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or intermittent fault condition.

F2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

- Ignition ON.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.

- Carry out the network test.

Does the SJB (Smart Junction Box) pass the network test?

Yes
GO to F3.

No
REFER to Information Bus, The SJB (Smart Junction Box) does not respond to the scan tool.

F3 RECHECK THE RFA (Remote Function Actuator) MODULE DTCs

- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module self-test.

Is DTC U0140:87 still present?

Yes
GO to F4.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or intermittent fault condition.

F4 CHECK FOR DTC U0140 OR DTC U0140:87 IN OTHER MODULES

NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI (Programmable Module Installation) may not have been carried out.

- Clear all DTCs.

- Ignition OFF.

- Ignition ON.

- Wait 10 seconds.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test.

- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules.

Is DTC U0140 or DTC U0140:87 set in any other module?

Yes
INSTALL a new SJB (Smart Junction Box). REFER to Smart Junction Box (SJB) . TEST the system for normal operation.

No
INSTALL a new RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module. REFER to Remote Function Actuator (RFA) Module . TEST the system for normal operation.
