Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Deactivation and Reactivation
Deactivation
WARNING: Always wear eye protection when servicing a vehicle. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, Safety Canopy(R) or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.
WARNING: Never disassemble or tamper with safety belt buckle/retractor pretensioners, adaptive load limiting retractors, safety belt inflators, or probe the electrical connectors. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the safety belt pretensioners, adaptive load limiting retractors, or safety belt inflators, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.
WARNING: Do not handle, move or change the original horizontal mounting position of the restraints control module (RCM) while the RCM is connected and the ignition switch is ON. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the Safety Canopy(R) and cause serious personal injury or death.
NOTE: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
1. Depower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering.
2. WARNING: Always deplete the backup power supply before repairing or installing any new front or side air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) component and before servicing, removing, installing, adjusting or striking components near the front or side impact sensors or the restraints control module (RCM). Nearby components include doors, instrument panel, console, door latches, strikers, seats and hood latches.
Refer to the Description and Operation portion of Restraints and Safety Systems &/or Air Bag Systems for location of the RCM and impact sensor(s).
To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least 1 minute. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if equipped).
Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute.
3. Remove the driver air bag module. For additional information, refer to Driver Air Bag Module .
4. Through the glove compartment door opening, disconnect the 2 passenger air bag module electrical connectors.
5. From under the rear of the passenger seat, slide and disengage the passenger seat side air bag module electrical connector locking clip, and then release the tab and disconnect the passenger seat side air bag module electrical connector.
6. From under the rear of the driver seat, slide and disengage the driver seat side air bag module electrical connector locking clip, and then release the tab and disconnect the driver seat side air bag module electrical connector.
7. Remove the B-pillar trim panels and the C-pillar trim panels.
8. Remove the 2 bolts, disconnect the electrical connector and remove passenger side rear assist handle.
9. NOTE: Passenger side shown, driver similar.
Position the weather-strip aside and disconnect the passenger side Safety Canopy(R) module electrical connector.
10. Remove the 2 bolts, disconnect the electrical connector and remove driver side rear assist handle.
11. Position the weather-strip aside and disconnect the driver side Safety Canopy(R) module electrical connector.
12. Install RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse 32 (10A) in the SJB (Smart Junction Box).
13. Connect the battery ground cable.
