Pinpoint Test E: The Luggage Compartment Lamp Is Inoperative/Always On

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 89, Interior Lamps for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 117, Remote Keyless Entry and Alarm for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

The Smart Junction Box (SJB) supplies voltage to the luggage compartment lamp when the battery saver relay is energized. The luggage compartment lamp ground is a series circuit that is comprised of 2 circuits and the luggage compartment ajar switch. When the luggage compartment lid is ajar, the ajar switch closes and completes the ground path by connecting the circuit. The battery saver function provides automatic shutoff of the interior lamps (courtesy lamps and demand lamps) after 10 minutes have elapsed in order to save battery power.

- DTC B1331 (Decklid Ajar Rear Door Circuit Failure)- an on-demand DTC that sets when the SJB (Smart Junction Box) detects an open from the luggage compartment ajar input circuit to the SJB (Smart Junction Box).

- DTC B1178:13 (Boot/Trunk Ajar Switch: Circuit Open)- an on-demand DTC that sets when the Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module detects an open from the luggage compartment ajar input circuit to the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- Luggage compartment lamp

- Luggage compartment lid latch

PINPOINT TEST E : THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LAMP IS INOPERATIVE/ALWAYS ON

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

NOTE: Make sure the demand (map) lamps operate before diagnosing the luggage compartment lamp.

E1 DETERMINE IF THE LAMP IS INOPERATIVE OR ALWAYS ON

- Open the luggage compartment lid and observe the luggage compartment lamp.

Is the luggage compartment lamp illuminated?

Yes
GO to E2.

No
GO to E3.

E2 CHECK THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LAMP GROUND CONTROLLED CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

- Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lid Latch C4223.

Does the luggage compartment lamp continue to illuminate?

Yes
REPAIR circuit CLN13 (WH/BU) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
INSTALL a new luggage compartment lid latch. TEST the system for normal operation.

E3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LAMP

- Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lamp C428.

- Ignition ON.

- Measure the voltage between the luggage compartment lamp C428-1, circuit CLN09 (YE/GN), harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
GO to E4.

No
REPAIR circuit CLN09 (YE/GN) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

E4 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LAMP USING THE CONNECTOR GROUND

- Measure the voltage between the luggage compartment lamp C428-1, circuit CLN09 (YE/GN), harness side and the luggage compartment lamp C428-2, circuit CLN13 (WH/BU), harness side.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
INSTALL a new luggage compartment lamp. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to E5.

E5 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID LATCH

- Connect: Luggage Compartment Lamp C428.

- Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lid Latch C4223.

- Measure the voltage between the luggage compartment lid latch C4223-2, circuit CLN13 (WH/BU), harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
INSTALL a new luggage compartment lid latch. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REPAIR circuit CLN13 (WH/BU) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
