Pinpoint Test V: The Cruise Control Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

If equipped with adaptive cruise control, the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives the cruise control set message from the Cruise-Control Module (C-CM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. If not equipped with adaptive cruise control, the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives the cruise control signal from the PCM over the HS-CAN (High Speed Controller Area Network) communication bus. When the cruise control is engaged, the PCM or the C-CM (Cruise-Control Module) sends a message to the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) to illuminate the cruise control indicator. If the cruise control message is missing for more than 5 seconds, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) sets DTC U0100:00 (without adaptive cruise control) or DTC U0104:00 (with adaptive cruise control) in continuous memory and defaults the cruise control indicator off.

NOTE: If DTC U0100:00 is set in the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster), other observable symptoms may be an inoperative speedometer, tachometer or odometer.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- PCM

- C-CM (Cruise-Control Module)

- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST V : THE CRUISE CONTROL INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

V1 CHECK THE CRUISE CONTROL OPERATION

- Check the cruise control system for correct operation.

Does the cruise control operate correctly?

Yes
GO to V2.

No
REFER to Cruise Control.

V2 CARRY OUT THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL

- Ignition ON.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DataLogger.

- Select the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) cruise control indicator (CRUISE) active command. Command the cruise control indicator on and off while observing the cruise control indicator.

Does the cruise control indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?

Yes
GO to V3.

No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.

V3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.

Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
For DTC U0100:00, GO to Pinpoint Test AR. Pinpoint Test AR: DTC U0100:00

For DTC U0104:00, GO to Pinpoint Test AT. Pinpoint Test AT: DTC U0104:00

For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts. Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes

No
For vehicles with adaptive cruise control, INSTALL a new C-CM (Cruise-Control Module). TEST the system for normal operation.

For vehicles without adaptive cruise control, INSTALL a new PCM. TEST the system for normal operation.
