Pinpoint Test A: The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Is Inoperative

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 60, Instrument Cluster for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives RUN/START and keep-alive voltage from the Smart Junction Box (SJB). The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) sets DTC U300A:62 in continuous memory and on-demand if the RUN/START input circuit is open or if the SJB (Smart Junction Box) fuse 29 (5A) has failed.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Fuse(s)

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST A : THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) IS INOPERATIVE

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

NOTE: Failure to disconnect the battery when instructed will result in false resistance readings.

A1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE CONTINUOUS IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DTCs from the continuous self-test.

Is DTC U300A:62 recorded?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test BK. Pinpoint Test BK: DTC U300A:62 Or U300A:64

No
GO to A2.

A2 CHECK THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) HOT AT ALL TIMES VOLTAGE SUPPLY

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) C220.

- Measure the voltage between the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) C220-21, circuit SBP26 (YE/RD), harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
GO to A3.

No
VERIFY SJB (Smart Junction Box) fuse 26 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR circuit SBP26 (YE/RD) for an open. If not OK, Refer to the Wiring Diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. TEST the system for normal operation. Diagrams By Number

A3 CHECK THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable.

- Measure the resistance between the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) C220-5, circuit GD114 (BK/BU), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes
GO to A4.

No
REPAIR circuit GD114 (BK/BU) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

A4 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) OPERATION

- Disconnect the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) connector.

- Check for:
- corrosion

- damaged pins

- pushed-out pins

- Connect the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) connector and make sure it seats correctly.

- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
