Pinpoint Test L: An Individual FDIM Display Is Inoperative - Vehicles With Navigation
Normal Operation
The Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) display provides information based on the video signal from the Audio Control Module (ACM). In addition to the information that the ACM (Audio Control Module) controls for the navigation and audio system, the ACM (Audio Control Module) receives inputs via the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) from the following modules:
- Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) : SYNC system information
- HVAC module: climate control system information
If the ACM (Audio Control Module) loses the signal from any of these modules, only that specific display becomes inoperative.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Communication network concern
- FDIM (Front Display Interface Module)
- ACM (Audio Control Module)
PINPOINT TEST L : AN INDIVIDUAL FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) DISPLAY IS INOPERATIVE - VEHICLES WITH NAVIGATION
L1 OBSERVE THE FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) DISPLAY
- Turn the audio system on and observe the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) screen.
Is the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) display completely inoperative?
Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test O.
No
GO to L2.
L2 CHECK THE FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) DISPLAY SEGMENTS
- Carry out the Audio Display Test. Refer to Audio Control Module (ACM) Self-Diagnostic Mode.
Do all of the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) segments illuminate?
Yes
GO to L3.
No
GO to L6.
L3 OBSERVE THE SPECIFIC INOPERATIVE DISPLAY
- Observe the inoperative FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) display while carrying out the indicated diagnostic method as follows:
Does the inoperative display confirm the expected results?
Yes
The system is operating correctly at this time. INFORM the customer on the operation of the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) displays.
No
GO to L4.
L4 CHECK FOR LOST COMMUNICATION DTCs
- Ignition ON.
- Clear continuous DTCs from all modules.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait at least 10 seconds.
- Retrieve all continuous DTCs (from all modules).
Is DTC U0164, U0164:00, U0184, U0184:00, U0197, or U0197:00 (if equipped with the SYNC system) present in any module?
Yes
REFER to DTC Charts.
No
GO to L5.
L5 CHECK FOR CORRECT FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new FDIM (Front Display Interface Module). REFER to Front Display Interface Module (FDIM). TEST the system for normal operation. If the concern is still present, GO to L6.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
L6 CHECK FOR CORRECT ACM (Audio Control Module) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect all the ACM (Audio Control Module) connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the ACM (Audio Control Module) connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new ACM (Audio Control Module). REFER to Audio Control Module (ACM). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
