Anti-Theft - Perimeter
Anti-Theft
NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).
The perimeter anti-theft alarm system consists of the following:
- Door ajar switches (part of the latch)
- Door lock control switch
- Door disarm switch (part of the driver door latch, only on vehicles equipped with Intelligent Access (IA))
- Hood switch
- Horn
- Luggage compartment lid ajar switch (part of the latch)
- Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter (part of the key)
- Keyless entry keypad
- Turn signal lamps
- SJB (Smart Junction Box)
- Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module (vehicles with IA (Intelligent Access) only)
- Driver Door Module (DDM) (vehicles with IA (Intelligent Access) only)
The perimeter anti-theft feature is controlled by the SJB (Smart Junction Box). The alarm can be armed by:
- pressing the LOCK button on the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter.
- pressing the door lock control switch to the LOCK position with the door open, then closing the door.
- touching and holding the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons simultaneously on the keyless entry keypad.
The perimeter alarm can be disarmed by:
- pressing the UNLOCK button on the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter.
- turning the door lock cylinder to the UNLOCK position (IA (Intelligent Access) vehicles only).
- using a valid programmed, Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) key to turn the ignition lock cylinder to the ON position (vehicles with Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) only)
- putting the vehicle in RUN mode using the push-button start with a valid IA (Intelligent Access) present (vehicles with IA (Intelligent Access) only).
- entering the correct vehicle unlock code on the keyless entry keypad.
The SJB (Smart Junction Box) monitors all of the inputs (all doors, hood, luggage compartment lid/liftgate must be closed and the key must be out of the ignition switch) and 20 seconds after all of the inputs are closed, arms the perimeter alarm. From the time each individual input is closed, to the time the perimeter alarm is armed for that particular input, is the "pre-arm phase". The pre-arm phase is separate for each individual input. If the door lock control switch was pressed to LOCK with the door open, all of the inputs that are closed (hood, luggage compartment lid) would immediately begin their pre-arm phase. As soon as the open door is closed, that door would begin its pre-arm phase. This would cause the other inputs to be armed a few seconds before that particular door. The perimeter alarm would arm in stages, in relation to which input was closed first after the arming command was given.
In the event of an unauthorized entry, the alarm is activated by the SJB (Smart Junction Box). When the alarm is activated, the SJB (Smart Junction Box) intermittently grounds the horn relay, causing the horn to sound in regular intervals, and intermittently powers the turn signals, causing the turn signal lamps to flash in regular intervals.
Unauthorized Entry - Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) Vehicles
An unauthorized entry is identified by the SJB (Smart Junction Box) when a door, hood or luggage compartment lid ajar switch is detected by the SJB (Smart Junction Box) as having been opened and no electronic unlock function (the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter unlock button being pressed) was received. If an unauthorized entry occurs at a passenger door, hood or luggage compartment lid, the SJB (Smart Junction Box) immediately activates the perimeter alarm. If the unauthorized entry occurs at the driver door, the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) emits a chime and displays a warning message with a countdown timer in the message center. If a valid PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) key does not turn the ignition switch to ON within 12 seconds of the driver door ajar signal indicating the driver door is open, the perimeter alarm activates.
Unauthorized Entry - Intelligent Access (IA) Vehicles
An unauthorized entry is identified by the SJB (Smart Junction Box) when a door, hood or luggage compartment lid ajar switch is detected by the SJB (Smart Junction Box) as having been opened and no electronic unlock function (the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter unlock button being pressed) was received. If an unauthorized entry occurs at any door, hood or luggage compartment lid, the SJB (Smart Junction Box) activates the perimeter alarm.
Authorized Entry - Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) Vehicles
An authorized entry is identified by the SJB (Smart Junction Box) as any of the ajar switches being opened after an electronic unlock command from a programmed RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter or keyless entry keypad has been detected by the SJB (Smart Junction Box).
Authorized Entry - Intelligent Access (IA) Vehicles
An authorized entry is identified by the SJB (Smart Junction Box) as any of the ajar switches being opened after an electronic unlock command from a programmed RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter, keyless entry keypad or door disarm switch (the driver door lock cylinder has been turned to the unlock position) has been detected by the SJB (Smart Junction Box).
Panic Alarm
The panic alarm is operated from the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter. Pressing the PANIC button on the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter causes the horn to sound and the turn signal lamps to flash for 2.75 minutes. The panic alarm can be activated when the perimeter alarm system is armed or disarmed with the ignition in the OFF position. The panic alarm system is only disabled when the ignition switch is in the ON, ACC or START positions. Deactivating a triggered panic alarm is done by pressing the PANIC button again. The panic alarm and the perimeter alarm use the same sequence of horn sounding and turn signals flashing. They are indistinguishable except by how they are activated.
The perimeter alarm may be deactivated (not disarmed) by pressing the PANIC button on the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter. This does not disarm the alarm, but it stops the alarm from activation (horn sounding and turn signals flashing). The perimeter alarm continues to be armed.
