Pinpoint Test I: The Ambient Lighting Is Inoperative

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 89, Interior Lamps for schematic and connector information [1][2]Diagrams By Number.

Normal Operation

The Body Control Module B (BCM-B) supplies voltage and ground to the LEDs located in the floor console cup holders, console storage bin, driver and passenger scuff plates, both door map pockets and the front and rear footwells. The message center is used to cycle through the color combinations or to turn the ambient lighting feature off. There are 3 different color (red, blue and green) LEDs housed within each LED assembly.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- BCM-B (Body Control Module B)

PINPOINT TEST I : THE AMBIENT LIGHTING IS INOPERATIVE

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

I1 VERIFY THE INOPERATIVE AMBIENT LIGHTING ZONE

- Verify the cupholder lid ajar switch is operating correctly by opening and closing the lid and observing the ambient lamps.

Do the ambient lamps operate correctly and follow the cupholder lid position?

Yes
GO to I2.

No
REPAIR or REPLACE the cupholder lid ajar switch assembly. TEST the system for normal operation.

I2 CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING HARNESS

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: BCM-B (Body Control Module B) C4368A and C4368B.

- Check the diode circuits between the BCM-B (Body Control Module B) , harness side as follows:

Connector-Pin/Circuit Connector-Pin/Circuit Zone 1C4368B-11 CLN44 (OG) C4368A-24 RLN44 (BN) C4368B-12 CLN45 (GN) C4368A-24 RLN44 (BN) C4368B-13 CLN46 (BU) C4368A-24 RLN44 (BN) Zone 2C4368B-24 CLN48 (YE/OG) C4368A-24 RLN44 (BN) C4368B-25 CLN49 (YE/GN) C4368A-24 RLN44 (BN) C4368B-26 CLN50 (YE/BU) C4368A-24 RLN44 (BN) Zone 3C4368B-9 CLN51 (WH/OG) C4368A-24 RLN44 (BN) C4368B-10 CLN52 (WH/GN) C4368A-24 RLN44 (BN) C4368B-23 CLN53 (WH/BU) C4368A-24 RLN44 (BN)

Does the meter indicate the circuits are good?

Yes
GO to I3.

No
REPAIR circuit RLN44 (BN) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

I3 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM-B (Body Control Module B) OPERATION

- Disconnect the BCM-B (Body Control Module B) connector.

- Check for:
- corrosion

- damaged pins

- pushed-out pins

- Connect the BCM-B (Body Control Module B) connector and make sure it seats correctly.

- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new BCM-B (Body Control Module B). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
