Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Valve
Removal and Installation

WARNING: Always disconnect the battery ground cable at the battery when working on an evaporative emission (EVAP) system or fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
5.0L vehicles except Boss(R) 302
1. If equipped, remove the 4 nuts and the strut tower cross brace.
- To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
2. Remove the engine appearance cover.
Boss(R) 302 vehicles
3. Remove the 4 nuts and the strut tower cross brace.
- To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
4. Remove the nut, the pin-type retainer and the LH engine shield.
- To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
All vehicles
5. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
6. Disconnect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge valve electrical connector.
7. Disconnect the vapor tube-to-EVAP (Evaporative Emission) canister purge valve quick connect coupling.
All vehicles except Boss(R) 302
8. Remove the 2 bolts and the EVAP (Evaporative Emission) canister purge valve.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
Boss(R) 302 vehicles
9. Disconnect the EVAP (Evaporative Emission) canister purge valve-to-intake manifold quick connect coupling.
10. Remove the EVAP (Evaporative Emission) canister purge valve from the bracket.
All vehicles
11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Carry out the Evaporative Emission System Leak Test. For additional information, refer to Evaporative Emission System Leak Test Testing and Inspection.
