Removal and Installation

All LH and/or RH engine support insulators

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.

2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

3. NOTE: Base 5.0L (4V) vehicle shown, Boss(R) 302 similar.
If equipped, remove the 4 nuts and the strut tower cross brace.

- To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).






4. NOTE: The engine appearance cover rubber grommets may remain on the cover. If so, remove the grommets from the cover and install them on the intake manifold before installing the cover.
If equipped, remove the engine appearance cover.






5. Remove the ACL (Air Cleaner) outlet pipe.

6. Remove the bolt and position the sound enhancement pipe aside.
- To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).






7. Remove the 8 pin-type retainers and the upper radiator sight shield.





8. Install an Engine Lifting Bracket on the rear of the RH cylinder head.





9. NOTE: It may be necessary to install washers between the Engine Lifting Bracket and the cylinder head to prevent the Engine Lifting Bracket from contacting the valve cover while supporting the engine.
Install an Engine Lifting Bracket on the side of the LH cylinder head.






All LH and/or RH engine support insulators except Boss(R) 302

10. NOTE: The draw screw and bracket from the heavy duty Engine Support Bar (303-F070) must be used with the light duty Engine Support Bar (303-F072). This will provide enough clearance between the draw screw bracket and the cowl.
Install the Engine Support Bar.






Boss(R) 302 LH and/or RH engine support insulators

11. Detach the wiring harness retainer and the hood release cable retainer from the radiator support.
- Position the wiring harness and hood release cable aside.






12. NOTE: The heavy duty Engine Support Bar (303-F070) must be used with the draw screw from the light duty Engine Support Bar (303-F072) in the rearward position. This will provide enough clearance between the intake manifold and the Engine Support Bar, and enough clearance between the draw screw and the vehicle hood.
Install the Engine Support Bar.






All LH and/or RH engine support insulators

13. NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.
Remove the RH and LH engine support insulator nuts.

- To install, tighten to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).






14. Using the Engine Support Bar, raise the engine 25 mm (0.984 in).

15. Remove the 2 LH and/or 2 RH engine support insulator-to-subframe bolts.
- To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).


16. Remove the 3 bolts and lower the underbody shield.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).






All LH engine support insulators

17. Remove the 3 bolts, the stud bolt and the LH engine support insulator bracket.
- To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).


18. Remove the LH engine support insulator.

All RH engine support insulators

19. Remove the starter.

20. Detach the wiring harness retainers from the RH engine support insulator bracket stud bolt.

21. Remove the nut and ground strap from the RH engine support insulator bracket.
- To install, tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).


22. Remove the nut from the RH engine support insulator bracket stud bolt and position the transmission cooler tube clamp aside.
- To install, tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).


23. Remove the 2 bolts, the 2 stud bolts and position aside the RH engine support insulator bracket.
- To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).


24. Remove the RH engine support insulator.

All LH and/or RH engine support insulators

25. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
