Pinpoint Test M: The Fuel Efficiency Gauge Is Inoperative (Hybrid)

Normal Operation

The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives the fuel usage data from the PCM over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) monitors the fuel usage inputs and provides an instantaneous display of the miles per gallon.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- PCM concern

- Transmission Control Module (TCM) concern

- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST M : THE FUEL EFFICIENCY GAUGE IS INOPERATIVE (HYBRID)

M1 VERIFY THAT THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) IS IN THE CORRECT DISPLAY SETTING

- Ignition ON.

- Using the setup menu, verify that the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) is in the enlighten, engage or empower display mode.

Is the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) in the enlighten, engage or empower display mode?

Yes
GO to M2.

No
SET the display setting to the enlighten, engage or empower mode.

M2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PCM KOEO (Key ON Engine OFF) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded PCM DTCs from the Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.

Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
DIAGNOSE all PCM DTCs first. REFER to Computers and Control Systems Information.

No
GO to M3.

M3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE TCM (Transmission Control Module) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded TCM (Transmission Control Module) DTCs from the self-test.

Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
DIAGNOSE all TCM (Transmission Control Module) DTCs first. REFER to Continuously Variable Transmission/Transaxle.

No
GO to M4.

M4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.

Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
For DTC U0100:00, GO to Pinpoint Test BF. Pinpoint Test BF: DTC U0100:00

For DTC U0101:00, GO to Pinpoint Test BG. Pinpoint Test BG: DTC U0101:00

For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts. Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes

No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
