Pinpoint Test A: The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Is Inoperative

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 60, Instrument Cluster for schematic and connector information. [1][2]Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

With the ignition in the START or RUN mode, the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives voltage from the Smart Junction Box (SJB) fuse 29 (5A). With the ignition in the OFF mode, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) receives its keep-alive voltage from the SJB (Smart Junction Box) fuse 26 (10A). The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) grounding is through a single ground. The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) sets DTC U300A:62 in continuous memory and on-demand if the RUN/START input is open or if the SJB (Smart Junction Box) fuse 29 (5A) has failed.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Fuse(s)

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST A : THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) IS INOPERATIVE

NOTICE: Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

A1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE CONTINUOUS IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DTCs from the continuous self-test.

Is DTC U300A:62 recorded?

Yes
VERIFY SJB (Smart Junction Box) fuse 29 (5A) is OK. If OK, GO to Pinpoint Test BZ. If not OK, REFER to the Wiring Diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. Pinpoint Test BZ: DTC U300A:62 Or U300A:64 [1][2]Diagrams By Number

No
GO to A2.

A2 CHECK THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) VOLTAGE SUPPLY

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) C220.

- For the non-hybrid, measure the voltage between the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) C220-21, circuit SBP26 (YE/RD), harness side and ground.

- For the hybrid, measure the voltage between the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) C220-19, circuit SBP26 (YE/RD), harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
GO to A3.

No
VERIFY SJB (Smart Junction Box) fuse 26 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit for an open. If not OK, REFER to the Wiring Diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. TEST the system for normal operation. [1][2]Diagrams By Number

A3 CHECK THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

- Ignition OFF.

- For the non-hybrid, measure the voltage between the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) C220-21, circuit SBP26 (YE/RD), harness side and the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) C220-5, circuit GD116 (BK/VT), harness side.

- For the hybrid, measure the voltage between the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) C220-19, circuit SBP26 (YE/RD), harness side and the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) C220-9, circuit GD116 (BK/VT), harness side.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
GO to A4.

No
REPAIR circuit GD116 (BK/VT) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

A4 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) OPERATION

- Disconnect the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) connector.

- Check for:
- corrosion

- damaged pins

- pushed-out pins

- Connect the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) connector and make sure it seats correctly.

- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
