Pinpoint Test Y: The Voice Guidance Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 130, Audio System/Navigation for schematic and connector information. [1][2]Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation - Premium Sound
The voice-assisted route guidance is broadcast through the front speakers. The voice guidance volume can be adjusted using the settings on the Audio Control Module (ACM).
Sony(R) or THX(R) Sound
The voice-assisted route guidance is broadcast through the instrument panel speaker. The volume can be adjusted using the settings on the ACM (Audio Control Module). The ACM (Audio Control Module) sends the voice guidance audio signals to the audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) module through a dedicated pair of circuits.
- DTC B1A07:01 (Speaker #7: General Electrical Failure)- sets when a fault is detected in the navigation audio circuits.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Incorrect voice guidance setting
- Wiring, terminals or connectors (except premium sound)
- Audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module (except premium sound)
- ACM (Audio Control Module)
PINPOINT TEST Y : THE VOICE GUIDANCE IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
Y1 CHECK THE VOICE GUIDANCE SETTING
- Adjust the voice volume to approximately 50%. Refer to the Owner's Literature.
- Set a destination and start the route using the navigation controls. Refer to the Owner's Literature.
- Observe the voice guidance.
Does the voice guidance operate correctly?
Yes
The concern was caused by an incorrect customer setting. INSTRUCT the customer in the correct use of the voice guidance feature.
No
GO to Y2.
Y2 CHECK THE SPEAKER OUTPUT
- Carry out the speaker walk test. Refer to Audio Control Module (ACM) Self-Diagnostic Mode Service and Repair.
Do the front speakers (premium sound) or instrument panel speaker (Sony(R) or THX(R) sound) operate correctly?
Yes
For premium sound, GO to Y6.
For Sony(R) or THX(R) sound, GO to Y3.
No
For premium sound, GO to Pinpoint Test D. Pinpoint Test D: Poor Quality/Distorted/No Sound From One Or More Speakers (Not All Speakers) - Premium Sound
For Sony(R) sound, GO to Pinpoint Test E. Pinpoint Test E: Poor Quality/Distorted/No Sound From One Or More Speakers (Not All Speakers) - Sony(R) Sound
For THX(R) sound, GO to Pinpoint Test F. Pinpoint Test F: Poor Quality/Distorted/No Sound From One Or More Speakers (Not All Speakers) - THX(R) Sound
Y3 CHECK THE NAVIGATION AUDIO SIGNAL TO THE AUDIO DSP (Digital Signal Processing) MODULE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) Module C4240C (Sony(R)) Or C4235C (THX(R)).
- Operate the audio system in navigation mode.
- For Sony(R) sound, while pressing the REPEAT button on the ACM (Audio Control Module) , measure the AC voltage between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C4240C-4, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side and the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C4240C-14, circuit RMN07 (VT), harness side.
- For THX(R) sound, while pressing the REPEAT button on the ACM (Audio Control Module) , measure the AC voltage between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C4235C-6, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side and the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C4235C-16, circuit RMN07 (VT), harness side.
Is a fluctuating AC voltage present?
Yes
GO to Y7.
No
GO to Y4.
Y4 CHECK THE NAVIGATION AUDIO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: ACM (Audio Control Module) C240A.
- Ignition ON.
- For Sony(R) sound, measure the voltage between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C4240C-4, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side and ground; and between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C4240C-14, circuit RMN07 (VT), harness side and ground.
- For THX(R) sound, measure the voltage between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C4235C-6, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side and ground; and between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C4235C-16, circuit RMN07 (VT), harness side and ground.
Is any voltage present?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to Y5.
Y5 CHECK THE NAVIGATION AUDIO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the resistance between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module, harness side and the ACM (Audio Control Module) , harness side; and between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module, harness side and ground as follows:
Sound System Positive Meter Lead Negative Meter Lead Circuit Sony(R)C4240C-4, then ground C240A-2 VMN07 (GY) C4240C-14, then ground C240A-14 RMN07 (VT) THX(R)C4235C-6, then ground C240A-2 VMN07 (GY) C4235C-16, then ground C240A-14 RMN07 (VT)
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module and the ACM (Audio Control Module) , and greater than 10,000 ohms between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module and ground?
Yes
GO to Y6.
