Diagnostic Routine E

Diagnostic Routine E

Diagnostic Overview

The Wipers Do Not Operate Correctly in the Low/High/Intermittent Mode(s) - Windshield or Rear Window

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 81 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

REFER to Windshield Wiper Operation . REFER to Rear Wiper Operation . A component failure or a failure in one or more of the power, ground or communication circuits causes incorrect operation.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK FOR WINDSHIELD WIPER HIGH SPEED OPERATION

1. Ignition ON.

2. Place the wiper/washer switch into each windshield wiper position (INT, LOW and HIGH).

Do the wipers operate in HIGH speed regardless of switch position?

2. CHECK FOR BCM (Body Control Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)

1. Ignition ON.

2. Using a scan tool, carry out the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.

Are any BCM (Body Control Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) present?

3. CHECK THE BCM (Body Control Module) WIPER/WASHER SWITCH PIDs (Parameter Identifications)

1. Using a scan tool, view the following BCM (Body Control Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications):

- Wiper Stalk Illegal Combination (WPR_SW_ICOM)
- Wiper Stalk Stuck Position or Button (WPR_SW_STK)

2. While monitoring the PIDs (Parameter Identifications), place the wiper/washer switch into each windshield wiper position (OFF, INT, LOW and HIGH) and then each rear window wiper position (OFF, INT and LOW).

Does either PID (Parameter Identification) display TRUE at any time?

4. CHECK THE CHARGING SYSTEM VOLTAGE

NOTE: Do not allow the engine speed to exceed 2,000 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) while performing this step or the generator may self-excite and result in default charging system output voltage. If engine speed exceeds 2,000 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute), turn the engine off and restart before performing this step.

1. Start the engine.

2. Turn on the headlights and the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) fan on high and increase engine speed to 1,500 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) for a minimum of 2 minutes while measuring the battery voltage.

Is the voltage between 13 and 15.2 volts?

5. CHECK FOR CORRECT WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR OPERATION

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect and inspect the LH (Left Hand) Windshield Wiper Motor electrical connector.

3. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connector or terminal - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

4. Connect the LH (Left Hand) Windshield Wiper Motor electrical connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

6. CHECK FOR CORRECT REAR WINDOW WIPER MOTOR OPERATION

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect and inspect the Rear Window Wiper Motor electrical connector.

3. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connector or terminal - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

4. Connect the Rear Window Wiper Motor electrical connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
