Diagnostic Routine U

Diagnostic Routine U

Diagnostic Overview

A Single Power Window is Inoperative - LH Rear, RH Rear

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 100 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

NOTE: If both rear windows are inoperative, REFER to Diagnostic Routine D: Both Rear Power Windows are Inoperative Diagnostic Routine D.

The LH (Left Hand) and RH (Right Hand) rear power window motors are bi-directional. Window direction is determined by the polarity of the voltage and ground being supplied to the motor from the window control switch(es).

Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks

- Verify the lock-out switch is in the UNLOCK position.

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE REAR WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Inoperative Rear Window Control Switch LH (Left Hand) or RH (Right Hand).

3. Ignition ON.

4. Make sure the rear passenger window lock-out switch (located in the master window control switch assembly) is in the UNLOCK position.

5. Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

2. CHECK THE MASTER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH NORMALLY CLOSED GROUND CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms for both measurements?

3. CHECK THE POWER WINDOW CONTROL CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

1. Disconnect: Master Window Control Switch C504B.

2. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms for both measurements?

4. CHECK THE LH (Left Hand) POWER WINDOW UPWARD AND/OR DOWNWARD OPERATION

1. Ignition ON.

2. To check downward window operation, connect fused jumper wires:

3. To check upward window operation, connect fused jumper wires:

Does the LH (Left Hand) rear window move up and/or down?

5. CHECK THE LH (Left Hand) REAR POWER WINDOW CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: LH (Left Hand) Rear Power Window Motor.

3. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms for both measurements?

6. CHECK THE RH (Right Hand) POWER WINDOW UPWARD AND/OR DOWNWARD OPERATION

1. Ignition ON.

2. To check downward window operation, connect fused jumper wires:

3. To check upward window operation, connect fused jumper wires:

Does the RH (Right Hand) rear window move up and/or down?

7. CHECK THE POWER WINDOW CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: RH (Right Hand) Rear Power Window Motor.

3. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms for both measurements?
