Halfshaft - LH

WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure, REFER to Safety Warnings . Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

Removal

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. REFER to Lifting Points .

2. Remove the LH (Left Hand) wheel and tire. REFER to Wheel and Tire .

3. Remove and discard the wheel hub nut.





4. NOTICE: Do not use a prying device or separator fork between the ball joint and the wheel knuckle. Damage to the ball joint or ball joint seal may result. Only use the pry bar by inserting it into the lower arm body opening.

NOTICE: Use care when releasing the lower arm and wheel knuckle into the resting position or damage to the ball joint seal may occur.

Remove and discard the ball joint nut and bolt.

- Insert a pry bar in the lower arm body opening and separate the ball joint stud from the wheel knuckle.






5. NOTICE: Do not bend the inner joint more than 18 degrees and the outer joint more than 45 degrees, or damage to the halfshaft will occur.

Using 205-D070 (D93P-1175-B) , separate the LH (Left Hand) halfshaft from the wheel hub.

- Support the halfshaft assembly.






6. Remove the brake hose retainer.





7. Using 100-001 (T50T-100-A) , the extension from the 205-241 (T86P-3514-A) , and 205-290 (T89P-3415-B) , remove the LH (Left Hand) halfshaft from the transaxle.





8. Remove and discard the halfshaft circlip.





Installation

1. If equipped with an automatic transmission, install a new halfshaft seal any time the halfshaft is removed from the transmission/transaxle or a leak may occur. REFER to Halfshaft Seal - LH .

2. Install a new circlip on the LH (Left Hand) halfshaft.

3. Install the LH (Left Hand) halfshaft assembly into the transmission.

4. Using 204-161 (T97P-1175-A) , install the LH (Left Hand) halfshaft into the wheel hub.





5. NOTICE: Make sure the ball joint heat shield is installed on the ball joint stud or damage to the ball joint may occur.

Insert the ball joint stud into the wheel knuckle and install a new ball joint bolt and nut.
- Tighten to 83 Nm (61 lb-ft).

6. NOTICE: Do not tighten the wheel hub nut with the vehicle on the ground. Tighten the wheel hub nut to specification before lowering the vehicle. Wheel bearing damage occurs if the wheel bearing is loaded with the weight of the vehicle applied.

NOTICE: Install and tighten the new wheel hub nut to specification in a continuous rotation. Always install a new wheel hub nut after loosening or when not tightened to specification in a continuous rotation or damage to the components may occur.

NOTE: Apply the brake to keep the halfshaft from rotating.
Install a new wheel hub nut and tighten in 2 stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft).
- Stage 2: Tighten an additional 90 degrees.





7. Install the brake hose retainer.
- Tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb-in).





8. Install the LH (Left Hand) wheel and tire. REFER to Wheel and Tire .

9. Check and fill the transmission fluid level.
