Diagnostic Routine I
Diagnostic Routine I
Diagnostic Overview
Transmission Range Sensor Fault
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 29 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The TR (Transmission Range) sensor monitors the position of the manual control lever shaft. The TR (Transmission Range) sensor is mounted on the transaxle. The TR (Transmission Range) sensor allows the vehicle to start in PARK and NEUTRAL positions. The TR (Transmission Range) sensor output signal is linear over the measurement range and the TCM (Transmission Control Module) receives this signal verifying the selector lever position.
The TR (Transmission Range) sensor inputs are used for,
- selector lever position
- starter inhibit relay
- reversing lamps
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
Pinpoint Test
1. Read and record all DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).
Were TR (Transmission Range) sensor DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) set?
2. Check the TR (Transmission Range) sensor power circuit for voltage
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect the TR (Transmission Range) sensor C167.
3. Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
4. Ignition ON.
5. Measure for voltage on the TR (Transmission Range) sensor power circuit (WH/GN) from the TR (Transmission Range) sensor C167-3 to ground.
Is voltage less than 5.1 volts?
3. Check the TR (Transmission Range) sensor ground circuit
1. Measure for voltage on the TR (Transmission Range) sensor ground circuit (BK) from the TR (Transmission Range) sensor C167-3 to the TR (Transmission Range) sensor C167-2.
Is voltage less than 5.1 volts?
4. Check the TR (Transmission Range) sensor circuits for an open
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect the TCM (Transmission Control Module) C1750B.
3. Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
4. Measure the resistance of the TR (Transmission Range) sensor circuits of the transaxle vehicle harness from the TCM (Transmission Control Module) C1750B to the TR (Transmission Range) sensor C167.
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms on each circuit?
5. Check the TR (Transmission Range) sensor circuits for a short to ground
1. Measure the resistance of the TR (Transmission Range) sensor circuits of the transaxle vehicle harness from the TR (Transmission Range) sensor C167 to ground.
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms on each circuit?
