Diagnostic Routine G

Diagnostic Routine G

Diagnostic Overview

P0720, P0721, P0722, P0723

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 29 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor is a magnetic pickup and measures the input speed of the output shaft and sends this signal to the TCM (Transmission Control Module). The OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor is used for TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) scheduling and shift time. The rotation direction is not measured. The OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor is located in the transaxle housing above the rotor in the differential. If DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) P1934 or P193F are set along with OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), follow the OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor diagnostic routines. If DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U0402 is set along with P1934 then the TCM (Transmission Control Module) is reporting invalid data to the PCM (Powertrain Control Module).

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

Pinpoint Test

1. Read and record all DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

Were DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) P0720, P0721, P0722, and/or P0723 set?

2. Check the OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor power circuit for voltage

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect the OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor C193.

3. Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.

4. Ignition ON.

5. Measure for voltage on the OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor power circuit (BN/GN) from the OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor C193-1 to ground.

Is voltage greater than 10.5 volts?

3. Check the OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor return circuit

1. Measure for voltage on the OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor power circuit (BN/GN) from the OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor C193-1 to the OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor return circuit (YE/OG) C193-2.

Is voltage greater than 10.5 volts?

4. Check the OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor circuits for an open

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect the OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor C193 and TCM (Transmission Control Module) C1750B.

3. Inspect the connectors for damaged or pushed out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.

4. Measure the resistance of the OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor circuits of the transaxle vehicle harness from the TCM (Transmission Control Module) C1750B to OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor C193.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms on each circuit?

5. Check the OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor circuits for a short to ground

1. Measure the resistance of the OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor circuits of the transaxle vehicle harness from the OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor C193 to ground.

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms on each circuit?
