Brake Shift Interlock Override
WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure, REFER to Safety Warnings . Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
General Procedure
1. NOTE: If it is necessary to use the override procedure to move the selector lever out of the PARK position, it is possible that an electrical failure has occurred. Using the scan tool check for DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).
This vehicle is equipped with a brake shift interlock feature that prevents the selector lever from being moved out of PARK when the ignition is in the ON position until the brake pedal is applied. If the selector lever cannot be moved out of the PARK position when the ignition is in the ON position and the brake pedal is applied:
Apply the parking brake, turn the ignition key to the off position, and remove the key.
2. Carefully pry off and remove the passenger side retainer access cover.
3. Remove the floor console side trim panel pin-type retainer.
4. Remove the floor console side trim panel.
5. Using a screwdriver, move forward and hold the brake shift interlock lever while pulling the gearshift lever out of the PARK position and into the NEUTRAL position.
6. Install the floor console side trim panel.
7. Install the floor console side trim panel pin-type retainer.
8. Install the passenger side retainer access cover.
9. Apply the brake pedal, start the vehicle, and release the parking brake.
