NOTICE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts that affect the performance of vital components and systems. Failure of these fasteners may result in major service expense. Use the same or equivalent parts if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Tighten fasteners as specified.
1. NOTICE: Disconnect the battery ground cable or damage to the steering gear internal power relay may occur resulting in steering gear replacement.
Disconnect the battery ground cable. REFER to Battery Disconnect .
2. Remove the wheel and tire. REFER to Wheel and Tire .
3. Remove the 8 screws and the underbody insulator.
4. Remove and discard the lower control arm ball joint pinch bolt and nut.
5. NOTICE: Do not use a prying device or separator fork between the ball joint and the wheel knuckle. Damage to the ball joint or ball joint seal may result. Only use the pry bar by inserting it into the lower arm body opening.
NOTICE: Use care when releasing the lower arm and wheel knuckle into the resting position or damage to the ball joint seal may occur.
Insert a pry bar in the lower arm body opening, separate the lower arm from the wheel knuckle and hub assembly and remove the ball joint heat shield.
6. Disconnect the A/C (Air Conditioning) compressor electrical connector.
7. Remove the A/C (Air Conditioning) line bracket.
8. Remove the rear A/C (Air Conditioning) compressor shield bolt.
9. Remove the 3 A/C (Air Conditioning) compressor shield bolts and the A/C (Air Conditioning) compressor shield.
10. NOTICE: Support the A/C (Air Conditioning) compressor. Do not allow the A/C (Air Conditioning) compressor to hang by the A/C (Air Conditioning) lines or damage to the A/C (Air Conditioning) compressor and lines may occur.
NOTE: The A/C (Air Conditioning) compressor must be positioned aside to gain access to the lower arm assembly forward bolt.
Remove the A/C (Air Conditioning) compressor bolt and position the A/C (Air Conditioning) compressor aside.
1. Remove the A/C (Air Conditioning) compressor belt.
2. Position the A/C (Air Conditioning) compressor aside and support with a length of mechanics wire.
11. Remove the lower arm assembly in the sequence shown.
1. Remove and discard the lower arm assembly rearward bracket bolts and nuts.
2. Remove and discard the lower arm assembly forward bolt.
