Steering Gear: Service and Repair
Steering Gear
WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure, REFER to Safety Warnings . Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
Removal
1. Remove the front subframe. REFER to Subframe - Front .
2. Remove the 3 steering gear bolts and the steering gear.
3. If installing a new steering gear, remove the dash seal as shown.
Installation
1. If installing a new steering gear, install the dash seal on the steering gear.
2. Position the steering gear on the subframe and loosely install the 3 new steering gear bolts.
3. Tighten the 2 forward steering gear bolts in the following sequence.
1. Tighten to 110 Nm (81 lb-ft).
2. Loosen 360 degrees.
3. Tighten to 56 Nm (41 lb-ft).
4. Tighten an additional 180 degrees.
4. Tighten the rearward steering gear bolt in the following sequence.
1. Tighten to 110 Nm (81 lb-ft).
2. Loosen 360 degrees.
3. Tighten to 56 Nm (41 lb-ft).
4. Tighten an additional 180 degrees.
5. Install the front subframe. REFER to Subframe - Front .
