Diagnostic Overview

B10E5:11 or B10E5:15

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 23 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The wake-up control circuit wakes up the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) prior to engine cranking. The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) needs to wake up prior to a crank request so it has time to go through its initialization. The wake-up control circuit is controlled by the BCM (Body Control Module).

The BCM (Body Control Module) activates the wake-up control circuit when:
- the driver door is opened.
- a key is inserted into the ignition.
- or when the ignition is in the ON or START position.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK FOR BCM (Body Control Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)

1. Ignition ON.

2. Using a scan tool, perform BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.

Is DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) B10E5:11 present?

2. CHECK THE PCM (Powertrain Control Module) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: PCM (Powertrain Control Module) C175B.

3. Ignition ON.

4. Using a scan tool, clear BCM (Body Control Module) Continuous DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

5. Using a scan tool, perform BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.

Is DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) B10E5:11 present?

3. CHECK THE PCM (Powertrain Control Module) WAKE-UP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280A.

3. Measure:

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

4. CHECK THE PCM (Powertrain Control Module) WAKE-UP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280A.

3. Disconnect: PCM (Powertrain Control Module) C175B.

4. Ignition ON.

5. Measure:

Is any voltage present?

5. CHECK THE PCM (Powertrain Control Module) WAKE-UP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

6. CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (Body Control Module) OPERATION

1. Disconnect and inspect all BCM (Body Control Module) connectors.

2. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connectors or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

3. Connect the BCM (Body Control Module) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

7. CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM (Powertrain Control Module) OPERATION

1. Disconnect and inspect all PCM (Powertrain Control Module) connectors.

2. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connectors or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

3. Connect the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
