Diagnostic Overview

P2531 or P2532

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 23 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

When the ignition is in the ON or START mode, the BCM (Body Control Module) supplies ground for the coil (control) side of the ignition relay. The energized ignition relay supplies battery voltage to the BJB (Battery Junction Box), the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) and multiple components through the ignition relay output circuit. The BCM (Body Control Module) sends ignition mode information via the HS-CAN (High Speed Controller Area Network).

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks

- Inspect BCM (Body Control Module) fuse 78 (5A).

- Inspect BJB (Battery Junction Box) fuse 38 (15A).

Pinpoint Test

1. RETRIEVE DTCs

1. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.

2. Using a scan tool, perform PCM (Powertrain Control Module) self-test.

3. Record all DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

Is PCM (Powertrain Control Module) DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) P2532 present?

2. CHECK THE IGNITION RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: PCM (Powertrain Control Module) C175B.

3. Measure:

Is any voltage present?

3. CHECK THE IGNITION RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE WITH IGNITION RELAY REMOVED

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Ignition Relay.

3. Measure:

Is any voltage present?

4. CHECK THE IGNITION RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: PCM (Powertrain Control Module) C175B.

3. Ignition ON.

4. Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

5. CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM (Powertrain Control Module) OPERATION

1. Disconnect and inspect all PCM (Powertrain Control Module) connectors.

2. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connectors or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

3. Connect the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
