Removal
WARNING: If a vehicle has been in a crash, inspect the RCM (Restraints Control Module) and the impact sensor (if equipped) mounting areas for deformation. If damaged, restore the mounting areas to the original production configuration. A new RCM (Restraints Control Module) and sensors must be installed whether or not the air bags have deployed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury or death in a crash.
NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse is removed and the ignition is on.
NOTE: The SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
1. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Ignition must remain OFF until repair is complete. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
If installing a new component for a SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) fault, continue to step 2. Otherwise, turn the ignition off, wait at least one minute and continue to step 3.
2. NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse is removed and the ignition is on.
Depower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA) or Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - without Intelligent Access (IA) . Service and Repair
3. Remove the C-pillar trim panel. REFER to C-Pillar Trim Panel - Lower .
4. Disconnect the side impact sensor electrical connector, remove the side impact sensor bolt and the side impact sensor.
Installation
1. NOTE: Make sure the C-pillar and side impact sensor mating surfaces are clean and free of foreign material.
Position the side impact sensor, install the side impact sensor bolt and connect the electrical connector.
- Tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb-in).
2. Install the C-pillar trim panel. REFER to C-Pillar Trim Panel - Lower .
3. If the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) was depowered, repower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System).
