Passenger Air Bag Module

Removal
1. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Ignition must remain OFF until repair is complete. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
If installing a new component for a SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) fault, continue to step 2. Otherwise, turn the ignition off, wait at least one minute and continue to step 3.
2. NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse is removed and the ignition is on.
Depower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA) or Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - without Intelligent Access (IA) . Service and Repair
3. Position the front passenger door weather strip aside, pull out to release and remove the instrument panel cowl side trim panel.
4. Remove the 5 glove compartment screws, pull to release the clips and remove the glove compartment.
5. Remove 2 passenger air bag module nuts, 2 passenger air bag module bolts and the passenger air bag module bracket.
6. NOTICE: Do not pull the passenger air bag module electrical connectors out by the locking button. Damage to the locking buttons can occur.
Using a small screwdriver, lift and release the locking button on the passenger air bag module canister vent electrical connector and disconnect the electrical connector.
7. Using a small screwdriver, slide and release the locking button on each passenger air bag module electrical connector and disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
8. Remove the 6 passenger air bag module nuts and the passenger air bag module.
Installation
1. Position the passenger air bag to the instrument panel and install the 6 nuts.
- Tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
2. Position the passenger air bag module bracket and install the 2 nuts and 2 bolts.
- Tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
3. Connect the 3 electrical connectors and engage the locking buttons.
4. Position the glove compartment into the instrument panel seating the clips and install the 5 glove compartment screws.
5. Install the instrument panel cowl side trim panel and reposition the weather strip.
6. If the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) was depowered, repower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA) or Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - without Intelligent Access (IA) .
