Removal

WARNING: If a vehicle has been in a crash, inspect the RCM (Restraints Control Module) and the impact sensor (if equipped) mounting areas for deformation. If damaged, restore the mounting areas to the original production configuration. A new RCM (Restraints Control Module) and sensors must be installed whether or not the air bags have deployed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury or death in a crash.

WARNING: Do not handle, move or change the original horizontal mounting position of the RCM (Restraints Control Module) while the RCM (Restraints Control Module) is connected and the ignition switch is ON. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the Safety Canopy(R) and cause serious personal injury or death.

NOTE: The SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

1. PMI (Programmable Module Installation) is required when installing a new RCM (Restraints Control Module). Refer to the scan tool instructions to carry out PMI (Programmable Module Installation).

2. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Ignition must remain OFF until repair is complete. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.

If installing a new component for a SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) fault, continue to step 3. Otherwise, turn the ignition off, wait at least one minute and continue to step 4.

3. NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse is removed and the ignition is on.
Depower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA) or Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - without Intelligent Access (IA) . Service and Repair

4. Pull out and remove the cover.

5. Remove the pin-type retainer, pull out to release the clips and remove the floor console lower panel.

6. Remove the duct.

7. Press the tab and disconnect the small RCM (Restraints Control Module) electrical connector.

8. Disconnect the large RCM (Restraints Control Module) electrical connector.

1. Pinch the thumb tab and pivot the CPA (Connector Position Assurance) lever all the way back until it stops.
2. Pull out and disconnect the RCM (Restraints Control Module) electrical connector.

9. Remove the 2 RCM (Restraints Control Module) nuts, 1 RCM (Restraints Control Module) bolt and the RCM (Restraints Control Module).

Installation

1. Position the RCM (Restraints Control Module) under the floor console.

2. Connect the small RCM (Restraints Control Module) electrical connector.

3. Make sure the CPA (Connector Position Assurance) lever is in the full release position before attempting to connect the connector.

4. NOTICE: Putting the large electrical connector into the RCM (Restraints Control Module) on an angle can cause bad electrical connections and damage components.

Position the large RCM (Restraints Control Module) electrical connector into the RCM (Restraints Control Module).

NOTICE: Do not push the connector to the point where the lever pivots and seats itself. Light pressure is needed to get the connector into position on the RCM (Restraints Control Module) before using the lever to fully seat the connector. Failure to follow these instructions may result in vehicle damage, equipment damage, component damage and/or system failure.

- With the large RCM (Restraints Control Module) electrical connector uniformly aligned to the RCM (Restraints Control Module), lightly push in until a subtle audible click is heard and slight resistance is felt.

5. Connect the large RCM (Restraints Control Module) electrical connector.

- Pivot the CPA (Connector Position Assurance) toward the RCM (Restraints Control Module), drawing the connector into the RCM (Restraints Control Module).
- Make sure the thumb tab is engaged to the retainer on the RCM (Restraints Control Module) and locked in place.

6. Install the 2 RCM (Restraints Control Module) nuts and 1 RCM (Restraints Control Module) bolt.
- Tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb-in).

7. Install the duct.

8. Install the floor console lower panel and the pin-type retainer.

9. Install the cover.

10. If the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) was depowered, repower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA) or Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - without Intelligent Access (IA) . Service and Repair

11. PMI (Programmable Module Installation) is required when installing a new RCM (Restraints Control Module). Refer to the scan tool instructions to carry out PMI (Programmable Module Installation).
