Catalytic Converter - Manifold
WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure, REFER to Safety Warnings . Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
Removal
NOTICE: Do not use oil or grease-based lubricants on the isolators. These lubricants may cause deterioration of the rubber. This can lead to separation of the isolator from the exhaust hanger bracket during vehicle operation. Use only water-based lubricants on the isolators.
NOTICE: Do not forcibly bend or twist the exhaust flexible pipe. Failure to follow these instructions may cause damage to the flexible pipe.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. REFER to Battery Disconnect .
2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. REFER to Lifting Points .

- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
6. NOTICE: Failure to tighten the catalytic converter manifold nuts to specification a second time may cause the converter to develop an exhaust leak.
NOTE: Discard the nuts.
NOTE: Always install new fasteners and gaskets as indicated. Clean flange faces prior to new gasket installation to make sure of proper sealing.
During installation, install 5 new catalytic converter manifold-to-cylinder head nuts and tighten in 2 stages in the sequence shown.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
- Stage 2: Tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
7. Remove the front subframe. REFER to Subframe - Front .
8. NOTICE: Failure to tighten the catalytic converter manifold-to-muffler and tailpipe nuts to specification in this sequence may cause the catalytic converter manifold-to-muffler and tailpipe flange to develop an exhaust leak.
NOTE: Always install new fasteners and gaskets as indicated. Clean flange faces prior to new gasket installation to make sure of proper sealing.
During installation, install 2 new catalytic converter manifold-to-muffler and tailpipe nuts and tighten in 2 stages in the sequence shown.
- Stage 1: Tighten the first nut to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
- Stage 2: Tighten the second nut to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
- Stage 3: Tighten the first nut again to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
10.
- Tighten to 17 Nm (150 lb-in).
Installation
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
