DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks

- Make sure the courtesy lamps operate.

- Inspect the overhead console for damage.

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK FOR AMBIENT LIGHTING DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)

1. Ignition ON.

2. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM (Body Control Module) Self-Test.

Is DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) B1180:86, B1180:88 B1390:07, B1390:83 or B1390:87 present?

2. CHECK THE COMPASS OPERATION

1. Check the operation of the compass and verify that it operates correctly.

Does the compass operate correctly?

3. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE AMBIENT LIGHTING MODULE

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Overhead Console.

3. Ignition ON.

4. Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

4. CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING MODULE GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

5. CHECK THE LIN (Local Interconnect Network) CIRCUIT BETWEEN THE AMBIENT LIGHTING MODULE AND THE BCM (Body Control Module) FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280H.

3. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

6. CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING OPERATION WITH THE COMPASS MODULE DISCONNECTED

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Compass Module.

3. Ignition ON.

4. Check the operation of the ambient lighting.

Does the ambient lighting operate?

7. CHECK THE COMPASS OPERATION WITH THE AMBIENT LIGHTING DISCONNECTED

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Connect: Compass Module.

3. Disconnect: Overhead Console.

4. Ignition ON.

5. Check the operation of the compass.

Does the compass operate?

8. CHECK THE LIN (Local Interconnect Network) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Compass Module.

3. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280H.

4. Ignition ON.

5. Measure:

Is any voltage present?

9. CHECK THE LIN (Local Interconnect Network) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Measure:

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

10. CHECK THE LIN (Local Interconnect Network) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

11. CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING MODULE LED (Light-emitting Diode) VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Overhead Console Illumination.

3. Ignition ON.

4. Turn the parking lamps on.

5. Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

12. CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING MODULE LED (Light-emitting Diode) VOLTAGE OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Turn the parking lamps off.

3. Disconnect: Overhead Console.

4. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

13. CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING LED (Light-emitting Diode) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

1. Disconnect all of the ambient lighting LEDs (Light-emitting Diodes).

2. Measure:

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

14. ISOLATE THE AMBIENT LIGHTING LEDs (Light-emitting Diodes)

1. Turn the parking lamps on.

2. Disconnect and then connect the LEDs (Light-emitting Diodes) one at a time while observing the other LEDs (Light-emitting Diodes).

- Overhead console illumination
- Left front footwell
- Right front footwell
- Passenger door map pocket
- Passenger door release handle
- Driver door map pocket
- Driver door release handle
- Floor console cupholder

Do the other ambient lighting LEDs (Light-emitting Diodes) illuminate when an individual LED (Light-emitting Diode) is disconnected?

15. CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING LIN (Local Interconnect Network) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect all of the ambient lighting LEDs (Light-emitting Diodes).

3. Ignition ON.

4. Measure:

Is any voltage present?

16. CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING LIN (Local Interconnect Network) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Measure:

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

17. CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING LIN (Local Interconnect Network) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

18. CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (Body Control Module) OPERATION

1. Disconnect the BCM (Body Control Module) connectors.

2. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- install new pins as necessary

3. Reconnect the BCM (Body Control Module) connectors and make sure they seat and latch correctly.

4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
