Diagnostic Overview

Normal Operations and Fault Conditions

REFER to System Operation .

The TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) communication can be interrupted by RFI (Radio Frequency Interference), which can cause intermittent issues that are not vehicle concerns. RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) is generated by electrical motors and appliance operation, cellular telephones, remote transmitters, power inverters and portable entertainment equipment.

Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks

- Inspect for cell phone chargers or GPS (Global Positioning System) units.

- Inspect for Non- OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) wheels or run-flat tires.

- Verify horn operation.

- Verify that the BCM (Body Control Module) responds to the scan tool and passes the network test.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions






Pinpoint Test

1. TRAIN TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) SENSORS

1. Train all 4 TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensors. REFER to Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor Training - Intelligent Access (IA) Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor Training - Intelligent Access (IA) or REFER to Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor Training - Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor Training - Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT).

Did all of the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensors transmit correctly and did the horn sound when each sensor transmitted to the BCM (Body Control Module)?






2. REPEAT THE TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) TRAINING

1. NOTE: Make sure that all aftermarket electronic equipment has been disconnected (if possible) and that the customer has been questioned about the kinds of electronic equipment they may have been using in the vehicle when this issue was identified.
Connect the scan tool.

2. NOTE: A spare tire cannot be programmed to the vehicle, even if equipped with a TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensor. If a damaged road wheel is located in the trunk and the BCM (Body Control Module) cannot communicate with it, or if the damaged wheel has been dropped off at a dealership or repair shop, the BCM (Body Control Module) sets a TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensor fault.
If the spare tire is in use, repair and remount the road wheel as necessary to restore system operation. REFER to Wheel and Tire .

3. Move the vehicle to rotate the wheels at least one-fourth of a turn. Leave the vehicle doors open. Start the sensor training procedure at adifferent wheel. REFER to Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor Training - Intelligent Access (IA) Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor Training - Intelligent Access (IA) or REFER to Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor Training - Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor Training - Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT).

Did any of the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensors train and did the horn sound when each sensor transmitted to the BCM (Body Control Module)?






3. CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (Body Control Module) OPERATION

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect and inspect all BCM (Body Control Module) connectors.

3. Repair:

- corrosion (replace connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - replace terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - replace pins as necessary

1. Reconnect the BCM (Body Control Module) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

2. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
