Diagnostic Overview

The Tachometer Is Inoperative

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

NOTE: If DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U0100:00 sets in the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster), other observable symptoms can be an inoperative speedometer, temperature gauge or odometer.

REFER to Tachometer .

If the BCM (Body Control Module) does not receive the engine RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) data from the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) for more than 1 second, the BCM (Body Control Module) and IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) set DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U0100:00.

If the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) does not receive the engine RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) data for more than 1 second, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) defaults the tachometer to 0 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute).

Pinpoint Test

1. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

1. Using a scan tool, perform the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.

Are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) recorded?

2. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE PCM (Powertrain Control Module) KOEO (Key ON Engine OFF) SELF-TEST

1. Using a scan tool, perform the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) KOEO (Key ON Engine OFF) self-test.

Are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) recorded?

3. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE BCM (Body Control Module) SELF-TEST

1. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.

Are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) recorded?

4. CHECK THE TACHOMETER OPERATION USING THE DEALER TEST MODE

1. Ignition ON.

2. Monitor the tachometer.

3. Ignition OFF.

4. Enter the Dealer Test Mode. REFER to Dealer Test Mode .

5. Scroll to gauge sweep.

6. Monitor the tachometer when the gauge sweep initiates.

Does the tachometer start at 0 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute), move to 8,000 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) and return to 0 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute)?
