Diagnostic Overview
A Low Washer Fluid Level Display Is Never or Always On
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 60 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
REFER to Low Washer Fluid Level Displays .
If the washer fuel level low message is missing for less than 2 seconds, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) defaults the washer fluid level low message center display to its last state (on or off) based upon the last known good message received.
If the washer fuel level low message is missing for 2 seconds or longer, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) sets DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U0140:00 in continuous memory and defaults the washer fuel level low message center display on.
IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks
Verify the washer fluid level is low for a never on display or full with an always on display.
Pinpoint Test
1. CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER OPERATION
1. Close all doors.
2. Ignition ON.
3. Open the driver front door and observe the message center operation.
Does the message center display the driver door ajar message?
2. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST
1. Using a scan tool, perform the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.
Are any DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) recorded?
3. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE BCM (Body Control Module) SELF-TEST
1. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.
Are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) recorded?
4. CHECK THE LOW WASHER FLUID INDICATOR OPERATION
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: Washer Fluid Level Sensor.
3. Connect a fused jumper wire:
4. Ignition ON.
5. Wait one minute.
6. Observe the message center low washer fluid display.
Does the message center display the low washer fluid message?
5. CHECK THE WASHER FLUID LEVEL SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Measure:
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
6. CHECK THE WASHER FLUID LEVEL INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: Washer Fluid Level Sensor.
3. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280A.
4. Measure:
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
7. CHECK THE WASHER FLUID SWITCH
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Ignition ON.
3. Wait one minute.
4. Observe the message center low washer fluid display.
Does the message center turn off the low washer fluid message?
8. CHECK THE WASHER FLUID INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280A.
3. Measure:
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
9. CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (Body Control Module) OPERATION
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect and inspect all BCM (Body Control Module) connectors.
3. Repair:
- corrosion (replace connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- replace terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- replace pins as necessary
4. Reconnect the BCM (Body Control Module) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
