Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC): Overview
Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
Overview
NOTE: Base IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) shown. Optional IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) similar.
Base IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)
NOTE: The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) is serviceable as an assembly only. Do not attempt to disassemble or install a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) lens or indicators.
The base IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) and the optional IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) are almost identical with the exception of the message center display area. Both message center displays utilize a single LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) display screen. The optional IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) message center provides a larger display area with enhanced display capabilities.
Informational Indicators/Warning Indicators
Informational indicators provide information to the driver of conditions that exist in the vehicle. Warning indicators provide information to the driver of conditions that could potentially cause personal injury or alter vehicle performance.
Message Center Indicators
Message center indicators illuminate in the message center and replace the typical informational or warning indicator using the same iconic representation. The only message center indicators available are the cruise control and upshift indicators. The cruise control indicator is set in a fixed location in the upper RH (Right Hand) side of the message center display.
Network Messaged Inputs
Module messaging has increased over time and become the standard for sending and receiving information required to operate the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). The majority of the inputs required to operate the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) are received over the CAN (Controller Area Network).
Hardwired Inputs
The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) requires hardwired inputs from components that are not hardwired to other modules and, therefore, are not on either the HS-CAN (High Speed Controller Area Network) or the MS-CAN (Medium Speed Controller Area Network), but are required for specific IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) functions or gateway requirements. REFER to Gateway Function.
The hardwired inputs are provided by components:
- Park detect switch (part of the floor shifter assembly)
- Upper LH (Left Hand) (message center) and upper RH (Right Hand) (audio control) steering wheel switch.
