Muffler and Tailpipe

Removal

NOTICE: The production muffler and tailpipe assembly is one-piece construction. The service muffler and tailpipe is 3-piece construction for PZEV (Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle) and the non- PZEV (Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle). PZEV (Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle) and non- PZEV (Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle) have different service section cut positions. It is necessary to cut the production exhaust system to enable the service sections to be fitted. Before cutting any part of the exhaust system, check that the position of the cut is correct in comparison to the service sections to be installed.

NOTE: Service section parts will use service section clamps for assembly.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. REFER to Lifting Points .

2. NOTICE: Do not forcibly bend or twist the exhaust flexible pipe. Failure to follow these instructions may cause damage to the flexible pipe.

3. NOTICE: Failure to tighten the catalytic converter manifold-to-muffler and tailpipe nuts to specification in this sequence may cause the catalytic converter manifold-to-muffler and tailpipe flange to develop an exhaust leak.

NOTE: Always install new fasteners and gaskets as indicated. Clean flange faces prior to new gasket installation to make sure of proper sealing.
During installation, install 2 new catalytic converter manifold-to-muffler and tailpipe nuts and tighten in 2 stages in the sequence shown.
- Stage 1: Tighten the first nut to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
- Stage 2: Tighten the second nut to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
- Stage 3: Tighten the first nut again to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

Installation

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
