Hydraulic Control Assembly - Antilock Brakes: Service and Repair




Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU)

WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure, REFER to Safety Warnings . Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

Removal

NOTICE: Do not spill brake fluid on painted or plastic surfaces or damage to the surface may occur. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash the surface with water.

NOTE: The HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit) and ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module are serviced as an assembly.

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

1. If installing a new HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit)/ ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module, upload the ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module configuration to the scan tool. REFER to Programmable Module Installation (PMI) .

2. Remove the battery and battery tray. REFER to Battery and Battery Tray - Exploded View .

3. Disconnect the ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module electrical connector.





4. Disconnect the 6 brake tube-to- HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit) fittings.
- To install, tighten to 18 Nm (159 lb-in).





5. Remove the HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit) mounting bracket-to-body bolt, detach the 2 mounting bracket grommets and remove the HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit).
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).





6. Remove the 3 HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit) mounting bracket-to- HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit) bolts and the mounting bracket.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).





Installation

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

2. If a new HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit)/ ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module was installed, download the ABS module configuration from the scan tool to the new ABS module. REFER to Programmable Module Installation (PMI) .

3. If a new HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit)/ ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module was installed, carryout the initialization using the scan tool and following the scan tool on-screen instructions.

4. Bleed the brake system. REFER to Brake System Bleeding .
