Diagnostic Overview

The Roof Opening Panel Rattles

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

When the roof opening panel glass is completely closed, it should be aligned within specifications. REFER to Roof Opening Panel Alignment . The roof opening panel system is made up of many components that require specific torque specifications and correct installation in order to avoid any NVH (Noise, Vibration, or Harshness) concerns. Over time, components may become loose or damaged, fasteners may become loose, sound insulating material may wear out and foreign material may collect in the roof opening panel frame. It is possible that one or more of these conditions may lead to a rattle concern in the roof opening panel system.

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL TIGHTNESS

1. With the roof opening panel in the CLOSED position, manually push up and fore/aft on the glass panel.

Is the roof opening panel glass loose?






2. CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL TRACKS

1. Position the roof opening panel to the full OPEN position.

2. Check the roof opening panel tracks for any foreign material and damage.

Are the roof opening panel tracks OK?






3. CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL WATER TROUGH AND TROUGH GUIDES

1. Check the roof opening panel water trough and trough guides for looseness and foreign material.

Are the roof opening panel water trough and trough guides installed securely and free from foreign material?






4. CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL SHADE ASSEMBLY

1. Check the shade assembly for correct installation.

Is the shade assembly installed correctly?






5. CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL AIR DEFLECTOR ASSEMBLY

1. Check the roof opening panel air deflector assembly for obstructions and damage.

Is the roof opening panel air deflector assembly OK?






6. CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL LIFTER ASSEMBLIES

1. Verify the roof opening panel lifter assemblies are free from obstructions and damage.

Are the roof opening panel lifter assemblies OK?






7. CHECK ROOF OPENING PANEL FRAME INSTALLATION

1. Lower the headliner and check all roof opening fasteners for correct torque and verify correct installation of the roof opening panel frame. REFER to Roof Opening Panel Frame - 4-Door Sedan or REFER to Roof Opening Panel Frame - 5-Door Hatchback .

Is the roof opening panel correctly installed and tightened to specifications?






8. CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL FRAME FOR RATTLES

1. Check the roof opening panel frame assembly for any loose parts or for any condition that will cause rattles.
