Diagnostic Overview
The Roof Opening Panel Has Excessive Wind Noise
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
When the roof opening panel glass is completely closed, it should be aligned within specifications. REFER to Roof Opening Panel Alignment . The roof opening panel weatherstrip provides a seal against adverse weather conditions such as rain and wind, preventing them from entering the passenger compartment. A damaged, deformed or incorrectly installed weatherstrip is unable to effectively seal the glass. The roof opening panel air deflector deflects the air flow over the roof opening panel when the panel is in the VENT or OPEN positions, a damaged or incorrectly installed air deflector is unable to effectively deflect the air flow. An incorrectly installed roof opening panel frame may also allow air/wind to leak into the passenger compartment.
Pinpoint Test
1. VERIFY ROOF OPENING PANEL NOISE
1. Road test the vehicle with the roof opening panel in the CLOSED and OPEN positions.
Is the wind noise present only in the OPEN position?
2. CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL WEATHERSTRIP
1. Check the roof opening panel weatherstrip for cracks, looseness, obstructions and correct installation to the roof opening panel glass.
Is the roof opening panel weather strip OK?
3. CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL ALIGNMENT
1. Make sure the roof opening panel is centered in the roof opening.
2. Measure the roof opening panel at each of the 4 corners. The measurements should be as indicated below.
Is the alignment OK?
4. CHECK THE AIR DEFLECTOR
1. Make sure the air deflector is securely attached and check for damaged or unsecured springs.
Is the air deflector OK?
