Diagnostic Overview

The Roof Opening Panel Does Not Open or Close in the Vent Position

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 101 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The roof opening panel switch provides a ground signal to the roof opening panel motor/module. When the roof opening panel is closed and the front portion of the roof opening panel control switch is pressed, a ground signal is sent to the roof opening panel motor/module which causes the roof opening panel to open to the vent position. When the roof opening panel is in the vent position and the rear portion of the roof opening control switch is pressed and held, a ground signal is sent to the roof opening panel motor/module which causes the roof opening panel to close.

The roof opening panel motor/module must be initialized when repairs are carried out on any part of the roof opening panel system or when a new component is installed. The motor/module uses the initialization procedure to "learn" the positions of the roof opening panel.

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL MOTOR/MODULE FOR INITIALIZATION

1. Attempt to carry out the roof opening panel motor/module initialization procedure. REFER to Roof Opening Panel Motor Initialization Programming and Relearning.

2. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

2. CHECK THE OVERHEAD CONSOLE SWITCH ASSEMBLY

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect the overhead console switch assembly electrical connector.

3. Carry out the Overhead Console Switch Assembly Component Test.

Is the overhead console switch assembly OK?

3. CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL MOTOR/MODULE CLOSE/VENT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Disconnect the roof opening panel motor/module electrical connector.

2. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

4. CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL MOTOR/MODULE OPEN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

5. CHECK THE ROOF OPENING PANEL MOTOR/MODULE FOR CORRECT OPERATION

1. Inspect the roof opening panel motor/module electrical connector.

2. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connector or terminal - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

3. Connect the roof opening panel motor/module electrical connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

4. Connect the overhead console switch assembly electrical connector.

5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
