Component Description
Handles, Locks, Latches and Entry Systems - with Door Modules (with Window One-touch Up), without Intelligent Access (IA)
Component Description
Door Latch
The door latches are sealed units and contain the door lock actuator, lock/unlock feedback switch, and the door ajar switch. The door latches can be lubricated, if necessary. REFER to Latch Lubrication .
Liftgate or Luggage Compartment Lid Latch
The liftgate or luggage compartment lid latch is a sealed unit and contains the release motor and the ajar switch.
Door Lock Control Switch
The door lock control switch is a momentary contact switch that receives voltage from the BCM (Body Control Module) on the input circuit. When the switch is pressed, it routes the input circuit to ground, signaling the BCM (Body Control Module) to lock or unlock the doors. When the switch is pressed, the doors lock or unlock depending upon their current state.
The door lock control switch contains a door lock indicator that is used for indication of the door lock status.
Liftgate or Luggage Compartment Lid Release Switch
The liftgate or luggage compartment lid release switch is a momentary contact switch that receives voltage from the BCM (Body Control Module) on the input circuit. When the switch is pressed, the input circuit is routed to ground, signaling the BCM (Body Control Module) to release the liftgate or luggage compartment lid latch. The release switch only operates when the driver door or all doors are unlocked electronically.
Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT)
The IKT (Integrated Keyhead Transmitter) incorporates both the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) and the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter functions in a single device.
During key programming procedures, the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) and RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter of an IKT (Integrated Keyhead Transmitter) are both programmed into the BCM (Body Control Module). REFER to Key Programming Using Diagnostic Equipment Key Programming Using Diagnostic Equipment or REFER to Key Programming Using Two Programmed Keys Key Programming Using Two Programmed Keys to program the IKTs (Integrated Keyhead Transmitters).
Some vehicles come equipped with only 1 IKT (Integrated Keyhead Transmitter) and 1 conventional PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) key. A minimum of 2 and a maximum of 8 keys can be programmed.
Driver Door Module (DDM) or Passenger Door Module (PDM)
The DDM (Driver Door Module) and PDM (Passenger Door Module) control the operation of the power door locks, power windows, and the power mirrors. They communicate with each other and the BCM (Body Control Module) over the MS-CAN (Medium Speed Controller Area Network).
They also send commands and receive feedback from the DRDM (Driver Rear Door Module) and PRDM (Passenger Rear Door Module) over a dedicated LIN (Local Interconnect Network) for each module.
The DDM (Driver Door Module) and PDM (Passenger Door Module) do not require PMI (Programmable Module Installation) when replaced.
Driver Rear Door Module (DRDM) or Passenger Rear Door Module (PRDM)
The DRDM (Driver Rear Door Module) and PRDM (Passenger Rear Door Module) control the operation of the power door locks and power windows in the rear doors. They receive commands and send feedback with the corresponding DDM (Driver Door Module) or PDM (Passenger Door Module) over a dedicated LIN (Local Interconnect Network) for each module.
The DRDM (Driver Rear Door Module) and PRDM (Passenger Rear Door Module) do not require PMI (Programmable Module Installation) when replaced.
Body Control Module (BCM)
The BCM (Body Control Module) is the master module in control of the power door lock system. It is responsible for determining if the doors should be locked or unlocked, and if the liftgate or luggage compartment lid should be released. The BCM (Body Control Module) receives direct input from the liftgate or luggage compartment lid release switch and the door lock control switch. It has an internal antenna for receiving the signals from messages from RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitters.
