DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks

- Inspect the exterior mirror glass.

- Inspect the exterior mirror.

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK DDM (Driver Door Module) OR PDM (Passenger Door Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)

1. Ignition ON.

2. Using a scan tool, perform the DDM (Driver Door Module) or PDM (Passenger Door Module) self-test.

Is DDM (Driver Door Module) or PDM (Passenger Door Module) DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) B12D8:11, B12D8:15 present?

2. CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE REAR WINDOW DEFROST SYSTEM

1. Ignition ON.

2. With the engine running, activate the rear window defrost.

3. Using an infrared temperature gun or equivalent, measure the temperature of the rear window glass for approximately 30 seconds noting changes in temperature.

Does the temperature of the rear window glass rise?

3. CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE LH (Left Hand) HEATED EXTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRROR GLASS

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: LH (Left Hand) Exterior Mirror.

3. Ignition ON.

4. With the engine running, activate the rear window defrost.

5. Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

4. CHECK THE LH (Left Hand) EXTERIOR MIRROR GROUND

1. Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

5. CHECK THE LH (Left Hand) EXTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRROR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: DDM (Driver Door Module) C501B.

3. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

6. CHECK THE LH (Left Hand) EXTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRROR HEATER OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: DDM (Driver Door Module) C501B.

3. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

7. CHECK THE LH (Left Hand) EXTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRROR HEATER OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

1. Measure:

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

8. CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE RH (Right Hand) HEATED EXTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRROR GLASS

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: RH (Right Hand) Exterior Mirror.

3. Ignition ON.

4. With the engine running, activate the rear window defrost.

5. Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

9. CHECK THE RH (Right Hand) EXTERIOR MIRROR GROUND

1. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

10. CHECK THE RH (Right Hand) EXTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRROR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: PDM (Passenger Door Module) C652B.

3. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

11. CHECK THE RH (Right Hand) EXTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRROR HEATER OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: PDM (Passenger Door Module) C652B.

3. Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

12. CHECK THE RH (Right Hand) EXTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRROR HEATER OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

1. Measure:

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

13. CHECK FOR CORRECT DDM (Driver Door Module) OPERATION

1. Disconnect and inspect all DDM (Driver Door Module) connectors.

2. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
- pushed-out-pins - install new pins as necessary

3. Reconnect the DDM (Driver Door Module) connectors and all previously disconnected exterior system connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

14. CHECK FOR CORRECT PDM (Passenger Door Module) OPERATION

1. Disconnect and inspect all PDM (Passenger Door Module) connectors.

2. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
- pushed-out-pins - install new pins as necessary

3. Reconnect the PDM (Passenger Door Module) connectors and all previously disconnected exterior system connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
