TSB 11-8-108/08/11
VISIBLE DEPRESSION IN HOOD SURFACE
FORD:
2012 Focus
ISSUE
Some 2012 Focus vehicles may exhibit a visible depression in the surface of the hood when the hood is closed.
ACTION
Follow service procedure to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Open hood and adjust both left and right hood bump stops to an initial height of approximately 42 mm (1"-11/16").
2. Confirm suitable bump stop-to-hood contact by performing a paper test. Place paper over hood bump stops (Figure 1) and close hood over paper (Figure 2).
3. Attempt to pull paper out from under hood.
a. If paper can be pulled out with a snug/firm feel and not tear, hood bump stop height is properly adjusted.
b. If paper can be pulled out easily with little or no resistance, hood bump stop height is too low. Bump stops must be raised and paper test repeated until snug/firm feel is met.
c. If paper cannot be pulled out without ripping, bump stop height is too high and must be lowered to achieve a snug/firm feel during the paper test.
4. Once hood bump stops are properly adjusted, fit hood as required.
a. If hood sur[ace depression is no longer visible, vehicle may be released.
b. If depression remains visible and cannot be eliminated with hood bump stop adjustment, proceed to step 5.
5. Open hood and remove hood insulation blanket.
6. Using a hack saw blade or utility knife, place blade in corner of hood reinforcement and carefully cut through mastic bead from points A to B. (Figure 3)
7. After cutting mastic, remove excess loose material.
8. Reseal the area with 3M(R) Automix Flexible Foam, part number 08463, or Fusor(R) 121 Flexible Foam.
9. Follow sealer manufacturer's instructions for applying and curing the foam.
10. Install hood insulation blanket.
