Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks
- Make sure the MP3 (Moving Pictures Experts Group -1 Audio Layer 3) device is operating correctly.
Special Tool(s)
Pinpoint Test
1. CHECK THE AUDIO INPUT JACK AUDIO
1. Connect: Multi-Media Interface Tester.
2. Using the Multi-Media Interface Tester, attempt to play an audio file using the audio input jack.
Does the file play correctly?
2. CHECK THE AUDIO INPUT JACK CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: Audio Input Jack.
3. Disconnect: ACM (Audio Control Module) C240A.
4. Ignition ON.
5. Measure:
Is any voltage present?
3. CHECK THE AUDIO INPUT JACK CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Measure:
Are the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
4. CHECK THE AUDIO INPUT JACK CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
1. Measure:
Are the resistance less than 3 ohms?
5. ISOLATE THE AUDIO INPUT JACK
1. Connect: ACM (Audio Control Module) C240A.
2. Install a new audio input jack. REFER to Audio Input Jack
3. Connect: Multi-Media Interface Tester.
4. Using the Multi-Media Interface Tester, attempt to play an audio file using the audio input jack.
Does the file play correctly?
6. CHECK FOR CORRECT ACM (Audio Control Module) OPERATION
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect and inspect all ACM (Audio Control Module) connectors.
3. Repair:
- corrosion (install new connectors or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
4. Reconnect all the ACM (Audio Control Module) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
