Diagnostic Overview

U0100:87

Normal Operations and Fault Conditions

When the ignition is transitioned out of off, the BCM (Body Control Module) receives the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) ID. If the BCM (Body Control Module) does not receive the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) ID or the ID is invalid, the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) does not allow the engine to start.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK THE BATTERY STATE OF CHARGE

1. Carry out the Battery Condition Test. REFER to Diagnostic Routine A: Battery Condition Test Pinpoint Tests.

Did the battery pass the Battery Condition Test?

2. RETRIEVE THE BCM (Body Control Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)

1. Ignition ON.

2. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.

Is DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U0100:00 recorded?

3. RECHECK THE BCM (Body Control Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)

1. Using a scan tool, clear the BCM (Body Control Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

2. Cycle the ignition from ON to OFF and then back to ON.

3. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.

Is DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U0100:87 retrieved?

4. CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM (Powertrain Control Module) OPERATION

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect and inspect all PCM (Powertrain Control Module) connectors.

3. Repair:

- corrosion, (install new connectors or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- install new terminals pins
- pushed-out pins- install new pins as necessary

4. Reconnect the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) connectors and make sure they seat and latch correctly.

5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
