Diagnostic Routine L
Diagnostic Overview
B10D7:81
Normal Operations and Fault Conditions
When an IA (Intelligent Access) key is placed in the backup slot for backup starting, the BCM (Body Control Module) activates the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) transceiver to read the key in the backup slot. The BCM (Body Control Module) only activates the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) transceiver if a programmed IA (Intelligent Access) key is not detected by the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module. If the BCM (Body Control Module) receives an invalid PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) key code, PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) prevents the engine from starting.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks
- Inspect the IA (Intelligent Access) key for damage.
- Verify the correct IA (Intelligent Access) key is being used.
Pinpoint Test
NOTE: Two programmed IA (Intelligent Access) keys must be present to perform this pinpoint test.
1. CHECK THE IA (Intelligent Access) KEYS
1. Verify the correct IA (Intelligent Access) keys are used with the vehicle. REFER to Intelligent Access (IA) Key .
Are the correct keys being used?
2. ISOLATE THE IA (Intelligent Access) KEYS
NOTE: The IA (Intelligent Access) system has to be disabled to make the BCM (Body Control Module) activate the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) transceiver and read the key in the backup slot. The IA (Intelligent Access) system can be disabled by removing the BCM (Body Control Module) fuse 81 (5A) for the RFR (Remote Functions Receiver) module.
1. Remove the BCM (Body Control Module) fuse 81 (5A).
2. Ignition ON.
1. NOTE: Follow this procedure using both IA (Intelligent Access) keys (using one at a time).
Place a IA (Intelligent Access) key in the backup slot and press the START/STOP switch.
2. Using a scan tool, clear BCM (Body Control Module) continuous DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).
3. Cycle the ignition from ON to OFF and then back to the ON position.
4. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.
Is DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) B10D7:81 retrieved for both keys?
