Diagnostic Routine E
Diagnostic Overview
The Engine Does Not Start or Unable To Turn Ignition On
Normal Operations and Fault Conditions
REFER to Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) .
If the vehicle has an IA (Intelligent Access) concern that prevents it from starting, the IA (Intelligent Access) key can be placed in the backup slot for starting. REFER to Backup Starting .
Pinpoint Test
1. CHECK FOR KEY NOT DETECTED
1. Check the message center while pressing the START/STOP switch.
Is Key not detected displayed?
2. CHECK THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) OPERATION
1. Observe the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) operation while pressing the START/STOP switch.
Do some of the indicators in the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) illuminate?
3. CHECK FOR RFA (Remote Function Actuator) MODULE, BCM (Body Control Module) AND PCM (Powertrain Control Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)
1. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test to retrieve DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).
2. Using a scan tool, perform the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) self-test to retrieve DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).
3. Using a scan tool, perform the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) self-test to retrieve DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).
Are any RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module, BCM (Body Control Module) or PCM (Powertrain Control Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) present?
4. CHECK FOR COMMUNICATION WITH THE SCAN TOOL
1. REFER to Diagnostic Methods Pinpoint Tests, and follow the procedure to establish a session with the vehicle.
Does the scan tool establish communication with the vehicle?
