Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems
Diagnostic Routine I
Diagnostic Overview
U0140:00
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 42 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
With the ignition ON, the BCM (Body Control Module) sends messages to the ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module and the SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module) over the HS-CAN (High Speed Controller Area Network). If the ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module and the SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module) do not receive these messages within a certain time frame (less than 1 second), the modules set DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes). For information on the messages sent to the ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module and the SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module) by the BCM (Body Control Module), REFER to Network Message Chart .
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
Pinpoint Test
1. CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK
1. Ignition ON.
2. Using a scan tool, carry out the network test.
Does the BCM (Body Control Module) pass the network test?
2. CHECK THE ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) MODULE OR SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module) CMDTCs (Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes)
1. Using a scan tool, carry out the ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module self-test or the SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module) self-test.
2. Retrieve and record all ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module or SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).
3. Clear the DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).
4. Ignition OFF.
5. Ignition ON.
6. Repeat the ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module or SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module) self-test.
Is DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U0140:00 retrieved again?
3. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) MODULE SELF-TEST
1. Check the recorded DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) from the ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module or SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module) self-test.
Is DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U3003:16 or U3003:17 recorded in the ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module or DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U3003:62 recorded in the SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module)?
4. RETRIEVE ANY DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE BCM (Body Control Module)
1. Using a scan tool, carry out the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.
2. Retrieve and record the DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) from the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.
Is DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U3003:16 or U3003:17 recorded?
5. CHECK FOR DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U0140:00 SET IN OTHER MODULES
1. Using the scan tool, carry out the self-test for all modules.
2. Retrieve and record the CMDTCs (Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes) from all modules.
Is DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U0140:00 set in the RCM (Restraints Control Module) module or in the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)?
