Disassembly
Seat Backrest - 60 Percent, 4-Door Sedan
Seat Backrest - 60 Percent, 5-Door Hatchback
WARNING: After a crash, the following safety belt components and attaching hardware must be inspected and tested to verify correct function:
- Retractors
- Buckles
- Child safety seat tether bracket assemblies
- Automatic locking retractor (ALR) feature for child safety seats (passenger seating positions only)
- Belt tension sensor (BTS) (if equipped)
- Front safety belt buckle support assemblies (slide bar) (if equipped)
- Safety belt shoulder belt height adjusters (if equipped)
Components that do not operate correctly or pass all Functional Tests in the Component Tests must be replaced with new components.
Safety belt assembly attaching areas must be inspected. Damaged or distorted attaching areas must be restored to their original structural integrity and a new safety belt assembly with new attaching hardware must be installed.
After deployment of the front safety belt pretensioners, a new safety belt system (including retractors, buckles and height adjusters) must be installed.
Failure to follow this instruction may result in incorrect operation of the safety belt system and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
1. Remove the rear seat backrest. For additional information, refer to Seat Backrest- Rear Seat Backrest - Rear.
2. Detach the safety belt retractor bezel from the backrest frame wire and remove the bezel.
- Pull where shown to unsnap the safety belt bezel from the backrest frame wire.
3. Push the buttons on the head restraint guide sleeves and remove the head restraint(s).
4. NOTE: If the locking tab on the head restraint guide sleeve is damaged during removal, a new head restraint guide sleeve must be installed.
Remove the headrest guide sleeves.
- Insert a suitable flat-blade screwdriver along side the head restraint guide sleeve, below the backrest cover and release button.
- Using the screwdriver, release the head restraint guide sleeve locking tab and pry upward to remove.
5. Detach the backrest latch bezel from the backrest latch and remove the bezel.
6. If equipped, pull outward on the outer edge of the child safety seat tether anchor bezel(s) and remove it from the seat backrest.
7. Pull the inboard and outboard backrest cover zippers out of the backrest cover.
8. Fully unzip the inboard and outboard backrest cover zippers.
9. Detach the backrest cover J-clip.
10. If equipped, remove the safety belt retractor.
1. Remove the safety belt retractor bolt.
2. Route the safety belt and tongue out of the backrest cover.
3. Remove the safety belt retractor.
11. NOTE: Mark the backrest latch alignment prior to removing the backrest latch to assist in installing and aligning the backrest latch.
Remove the backrest latch.
- Remove the 2 bolts and the backrest latch.
12. Remove the hinge pin and bolt.
13. NOTICE: Use care when separating the backrest trim cover from the hook-and-loop strips, or the hook-and-loop strips can be torn from the backrest foam pad.
Separate the hook-and-loop strips, invert the seat backrest cover and remove the hog rings.
14. Remove the backrest frame and foam pad as an assembly.
Assembly
1. Install backrest cover onto the backrest frame and foam pad.
2. Using hog rings, attach the foam pad to the backrest cover.
3. Attach the backrest cover and foam pad hook-and-loop strips.
4. Install the hinge pin and bolt.
- Tighten to 38 Nm (28 lb-ft).
5. Position the backrest latch to the marks in the backrest frame and install the 2 bolts.
- Tighten to 24 Nm (18 lb-ft).
6. NOTE: Make sure the safety belt webbing is not twisted and the safety belt and buckle are accessible to the occupants.
Install the safety belt retractor.
1. Install the safety belt retractor.
2. Route the safety belt and tongue through the backrest cover.
3. Install the safety belt retractor bolt.
- Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
7. Attach the backrest cover J-clip.
8. Fully zip the inboard and outboard backrest cover zippers.
9. Insert the inboard and outboard backrest cover zippers into backrest cover.
10. If equipped, install the child safety seat tether anchor bezel(s) onto the seat backrest.
11. Attach the backrest latch bezel to the backrest latch.
12. NOTE: If the locking tab on the head restraint guide sleeve is damaged during removal, a new head restraint guide sleeve must be installed.
Install the head restraint guide sleeves.
13. Attach the safety belt retractor bezel to the backrest frame wire.
14. Install the rear seat backrest. For additional information, refer to Seat Backrest- Rear Seat Backrest - Rear.
