Pinpoint Test K: The Entire Audio System is Inoperative
Normal Operation
With the ignition in RUN or ACC, the audio system can be powered on. When the ON button is pressed on the Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM) (or the ignition is turned to RUN or ACC and the audio system was on when the ignition was turned off), a wake-up signal is provided to the Front Control/Display Interface Module (FCDIM) via the dedicated Local Interconnect Network (LIN) line. The FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) then broadcasts a message over the Infotainment Controller Area Network (I-CAN) to the other modules in the audio system.
When a button is pressed on the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module), there is a corresponding display on the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module). The FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) displays base audio system information, warning message and icons, SYNC(R) information (if equipped), and satellite radio information (if equipped). The information is sent to the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) via the MS-CAN (Medium Speed Controller Area Network).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Communication network concern
- FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module)
- FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module)
- ACM (Audio Front Control Module)
PINPOINT TEST K : THE ENTIRE AUDIO SYSTEM IS INOPERATIVE
K1 CHECK FOR SCAN TOOL COMMUNICATION
- Carry out the network test with the scan tool.
Do either the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) or the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) fail to communicate with the scan tool?
Yes
REFER to Information Bus to diagnose The ACM (Audio Front Control Module) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool or The FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool.
No
GO to K2.
K2 CHECK THE POWER SWITCH INPUT TO THE FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module)
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) DataLogger.
- Monitor the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) power switch PID (BTN_POWER) while pressing and releasing the power switch on the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module).
Does the PID display the correct the power switch positions?
Yes
GO to K3.
No
GO to Pinpoint Test Y Pinpoint Test Y: The Audio System Does Not Operate Correctly From The Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM).
K3 CHECK FOR LOST COMMUNICATION DTCs
- Using the scan tool, clear the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) and FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) continuous DTCs.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait at least 10 seconds.
- Repeat the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) and FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) self-tests.
Is DTC U0140:00, U0193:00, or U0257:00 present in either module?
Yes
REFER to DTC Charts Accessories and Optional Equipment.
No
GO to K4.
K4 CHECK FOR CORRECT ACM (Audio Front Control Module) OPERATION
- Disconnect all the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new ACM (Audio Front Control Module). REFER to Audio Control Module (ACM) Audio Control Module (ACM). CLEAR any DTCs present. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR any DTCs present.
