Condenser to Evaporator Line
Removal and Installation
All vehicles
1. Recover the refrigerant. For additional information, refer to Climate Control Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging.
2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Jacking and Lifting Service and Repair.
3. Remove the 9 lower radiator splash shield screws and the splash shield.
4. Remove the condenser outlet fitting nut and disconnect the fitting.
- Discard the O-ring seal and gasket seal.
- To install, tighten to 15 Nm (133 lb-in).
5. If equipped, remove the 4 nuts and the strut tower cross brace.
6. Disconnect the positive and negative battery cables. For additional information, refer to Battery, Mounting and Cables Service and Repair.
5.0L (4V) vehicles
7. Remove the engine appearance cover.
All Vehicles
8. Detach the positive battery cable pin-type retainer from the battery tray.
9. Remove the positive battery cable nut at the junction box, detach the battery cable pin-type retainer and position the battery cable aside.
- To install. tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
10. Detach the 2 wire harness pin-type retainers.
11. Remove the 2 ground strap bolts at the RH shock tower.
- To install. tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
12. Remove the high-pressure service gauge port valve extension bracket bolt.
- To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
13. Remove the evaporator outlet line bracket bolt.
- To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
5.4L (4V) vehicles
14. Drain the engine coolant. For additional information, refer to Supercharger Cooling Supercharger Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding.
15. Disconnect the engine-side heater hose connections.
16. Remove the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system module tube. For additional information, refer to Engine Emission Control Service and Repair.
17. Remove the battery tray. For additional information, refer to Battery, Mounting and Cables Battery and Battery Tray - Exploded View.
5.0L (4V) and 5.4L (4V) vehicles
18. Remove the upper radiator sight shield.
19. Disconnect the 3 PCM electrical connectors.
20. Disconnect the electrical connector at the PCM bracket and detach the wire harness pin-type retainer.
21. Loosen the 2 lower PCM bracket bolts.
- To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
22. Remove the PCM bracket bolt near the PCM electrical connectors.
- To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
23. Remove the junction box bolt and nut.
- To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
24. Position the junction box aside and remove the PCM bracket stud.
- To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
25. Remove the PCM and PCM bracket as an assembly.
All vehicles
26. Disconnect the electrical connector at the front of the RH shock tower and detach the wire harness pin-type retainer.
27. Detach the 2 wire harness pin-type retainers at the RH shock tower.
28. Remove the Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TXV) fitting nut and disconnect the fitting.
- Discard the gasket seals.
29. Detach the 2 condenser-to-evaporator line clips.
30. Detach the condenser-to-evaporator line from the TXV fitting bracket.
31. Remove the condenser-to-evaporator line.
32. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Install new gasket seals and O-ring seals.
- Add the correct amount of clean PAG oil to the refrigerant system. For additional information, refer to the Refrigerant Oil Adding procedure in Climate Control System - General Information and Diagnostics Refrigerant Oil Adding.
33. Evacuate, leak test and charge the refrigerant system. For additional information, refer to Climate Control System - General Information and Diagnostics Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging.
